SALEM — Vintage boats will be on display at Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina this weekend.

The 33rd annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival will run at the marina, located on Turner Street, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is the festival’s 15th year here, and previous festivals have drawn a few thousand people over the course of both days, according to festival coordinator Pat Wells.
“Some boats repeat, and then we get a number of new boats people have never seen before,” Wells said.

The event offers guests an opportunity to see watercraft as art, according to Wells. “You can’t see boats like this in general,” she said. “When you look out on harbors today, you just see this mass of white, fiberglass vessels. These old, wooden boats are works of art. They’re really different, look different, feel different. They smell different.”Many of the boat owners let guests on board and share stories from out on the ocean, according to Wells.

“There are stories to be had here,” Wells said. “There’s no question about it.”

Admission is $5; children under the age of 12 enter free. For more information, call 781-690-9707 or visit boatfestival.net.
