2016 Indian Harbor Classic Yacht Regatta – Final Results

DAGGER, a 1939 C.Raymond Hunt International 225, scores big win for  owner/skipper Ted Boynton, C.J. Salustro (middle/tactics) Peter Sherman (trimmer) and Team USR in a hard fought race with local favorite, Trevor Fetter’s 1938 S&S designed Black Watch. In a freshening 12-15 knot breeze Dagger wins on corrected time by almost two minutes, winning the overall perpetual trophy and beautiful clock set.

A well represented fleet, superb regatta, with an outstanding host yacht club and race committee. A long list of notable boats, including Shields, S-Class, Cat Boats, Q-boats (Nor’easter and Hope), Atlantics, L.F. Herreshoff Big Ti, Phil Rhodes Golden-Eye, Alfred Mylne The Blue Peter, NY 32 Class Salty, etc…etc…

Indian Harbor Classic Yacht Regatta – September 17-18, 2016. Classic yachts from across New England will again be competing for the prestigious Frank Bowne Jones “Founder’s Cup” Trophy and the “Spartan Cup”. A new “Victory Award” award for smaller yachts has been announced among additional prizes for all classes. The will be race two of the Long Island Sound Classic Yacht Regatta Series that includes races at the yacht clubs of Larchmont, Indian Harbor and Hempstead Harbor. It is also part of the popular WoodenBoat Series.

About the Frank Bowne Jones “Founder’s Cup”: The FBJ was established in honor this noted yachtsman who
was the first member of Indian Harbor Yacht Club and a founding member of the Yacht Racing Union of Long Island Sound, the US Power Squadron and the North American Yacht Racing Union, which is known today as US Sailing. He has been a candidate for inclusion in the National Sailing Hall of Fame.

About IHYC: Indian Harbor Yacht Club was founded in 1889 by dedicated sailors intent on being part of the thriving sailing community on Long Island Sound. The 1919 clubhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was built by Commodore Charles Wills, whose firm also built the New York Stock Exchange. For over 12 decades, IHYC sailors have been well regarded for their success on the water in one-design, fleet and ocean racing with over 250 boats entered in the historic Newport to Bermuda Race resulting in 4 overall winners. They have also won the Transatlantic Race, the Fastnet Race and the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit. IHYC
is proud to be a founding member of the National Sailing Hall of Fame.
