Lantern Light Tours – A New England Holiday Tradition

Mystic, Connecticut – Join us for the 36th annual theatrical production of Lantern Light Tours at Mystic Seaport. Set on Christmas Eve in 1876, the play unfolds in the Museum’s historic buildings and vessels. Visitors of all ages will enjoy seasonal delights that include a horse-drawn carriage ride, the beautiful glow of lanterns that light the way and, just perhaps, a visit with old St. Nick!

This year’s story focuses on the Sawyer family, a young couple expecting their first child who travel to Mystic and are not able to find lodging for the night. The performance features a surprise inheritance, a villainous Mr. King, a rousing tavern dance, and a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas in their busy toy shop.

Each Lantern Light Tour is a 70-minute progressive performance that covers approximately half a mile of uneven terrain (including cobblestone, wood planking, grass, gravel, and stairs) and is performed in all weather conditions. Audience members walk or stand for the majority of the performance, so please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather conditions.

To provide the best experience for the audience, each tour is limited to 16 people. Performances are appropriate for all ages, though not recommended for children under the age of 4. If a tour is canceled due to inclement weather, tour-goers may transfer their tickets to the snow date. Please call 860.572.0711 with questions about weather cancellations.
