Historical:

Unsuccessful in her first effort to defend the Cup in 1958, Philip L. Rhodes at Luders yard in 1962, redesigned Weatherly with a shorter bow and reduced wetted surface. Weight saved in the redesign was put into the keel. Through these efforts Weatherly was selected to defend the 1962 America’s Cup, amid stiff competition, resulting in a 4-1 win over Gretel.

Weatherly was Rhodes’ only design to the International Rule, and thus far she is the only Twelve to have defended the Cup, that wasn’t designed by Olin Stephens
