Nelson/Marek Design Number 95
The First Coast Guard District command center in Boston received an alert beacon signal at about 4:50 a.m. February 15th from the sailing vessel Sedona, and contacted the two men via satellite phone, according to a Coast Guard press release. Both father and son were successfully rescued in good condition.
As reported in the Newport Daily News about the McGlashan’s planned trip – “We’ve never done anything like this. Dad’s not even a sailor, but he’s a quick study,” said Jason McGlashan in his Australian accent. “We’ve got plenty of food, plenty of booze, good sails and all the safety gear you could ever need, so we’re going to be OK.”
“The younger McGlashan has sailed since childhood from the port city of Port Macquarie, located between Brisbane and Sydney on the east coast of Australia.”
