Historical:

The Windermere 17 is a restricted racing class, still racing today, developed by the Royal Windermere Yacht Club in 1904. Herbert Crossley, who had designed many earlier Windermere yachts, was instrumental to the class’ first design, designing number one “Naiad,” and Number five, “Nomad,” before his premature death in 1907. Percy Crossley,, son of founder member Louis Crossley, and Herberts’ cousin. went on to design 43 of them over the next 60 years. Other designers included Alfred Mylne, Arthur Robb, David Boyd, Uffa Fox, Olin Stephens, and a recent design by Ian Howlett.
