Nord Stream provides gas transportation of natural gas from western Russia to the European gas grid. The gas transportation system is comprised of twin, 1,224-kilometre pipelines through the Baltic Sea. Each has the capacity to transport 27.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year.
On 20 December 1945, the British handed over the Four-Masted Barque Kommodore Johnsen to the Soviet Union as war reparation. In the Soviet Union, she was converted into a sail training vessel for the Soviet Navy, and was renamed Sedov after the Arctic explorer Georgy Sedov who died during an investigation in the Arctic in 1914,
Currently Sedov Cadets have sailed the 101-year-old vessel to observe leaks at Nord Stream
According to the navigation portal Vesselfinder, the Russian sail -training ship Sedov came within 12.4 miles of one of the Nord Stream gas leaks northeast of Bornholm Island today. At noon, the ship continued to move towards the emergency site at a speed of less than 1 knot (about 1.5 km per hour). The ship went to the Nord Stream leak area a day ago. Obviously, they can conduct surveillance from the ship. The Swedish Coast Guard ship Amphitrite is also in the emergency area and a Swedish Air Force aircraft is circling over the leak site.
It is known that the 100-year-old sailing ship “Sedov” left Kaliningrad on September 18 and should return back in a month. Most of the time the ship spent near the territorial waters of Poland.
“FROM KALININGRAD, ON BOARD THE SEDOV, CADETS OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF THE FEDERAL AGENCY FOR FISHERY FROM KERCH, MURMANSK AND KALININGRAD SET OFF ON A SEA VOYAGE ACROSS THE BALTIC. WITHIN A MONTH, THEY WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE THE EDUCATIONAL TASKS OF SWIMMING PRACTICE, IMPROVE THE SKILLS ACQUIRED IN THE CLASSROOMS AND OFFICES ON THE SHORE”, IRINA OBRAZTSOVA, HEAD OF THE PRESS SERVICE OF THE BALTIC STATE ACADEMY (BGA) OF THE FISHING FLEET, TOLD TASS. ACCORDING TO HER, THE SEDOV FLIGHT WILL BE THE THIRD ONE IN THIS YEAR’S NAVIGATION. DURING THE TWO PREVIOUS VOYAGES ACROSS THE BALTIC SEA, ABOUT 260 CADETS FROM ASTRAKHAN, YEYSK, KALININGRAD, KERCH, MURMANSK AND ST. PETERSBURG UNDERWENT SEA PRACTICE ON THE SEDOV BARQUE.
As reported EADaily , sabotage led to a gas leak at Nord Stream. Most European politicians adhere to this version. Moreover, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) recorded on September 26 in the area of gas pipelines fluctuations of magnitude 2.3 and 2.1.
“THE SIGNALS ARE NOT LIKE SIGNALS FROM EARTHQUAKES. THEY ARE REMINISCENT OF THE SIGNALS USUALLY RECORDED FROM EXPLOSIONS.” — STATED IN THE MESSAGE GEUS. THE SERVICE RECORDED EXPLOSIONS IN THE NORD STREAM 2 AREA AT 2.03, AND NEAR NORD STREAM AT 19.03.
The Swedish police launched a preliminary investigation into the sabotage.
“RECORDED YESTERDAY AS A RESULT OF A GAS LEAK, A SHARP DROP IN PRESSURE ON BOTH STRINGS OF THE NORD STREAM 1 GAS PIPELINE ALLOWS US TO CONFIDENTLY ASSUME THAT THE LEAK IN THE GAS PIPELINE IS CAUSED BY PHYSICAL DAMAGE,” – SAID IN THE LAST MESSAGE OF THE OPERATOR NORD STREAM AG. PREVIOUSLY, THE COMPANY CLAIMED UNPRECEDENTED DAMAGE AND THE INABILITY TO ESTIMATE THE RECOVERY TIME.
Nord Stream did not work, but could resume Russian gas supplies to Germany and other EU countries. The state of emergency buried this possibility. Someone is trying to disrupt any possibility of restoring ties between the EU and Russia, experts say.
