Hurricane of 1939

In the summer of 1939 in Newport Beach, unusually warm weather produced a rare event in Southern California – a hurricane! The storm happened right off the Balboa Peninsula and caused damage to local property and stress to residents. Luckily no one was killed but some daring surfers actually risked their lives going out into the dangerous waters to rescue two overboard sailors.
