Sail to Shelter – Giving Sails a Meaningful Second Life.

St. Francis Yacht Club – Angela Abshier is an intellectual property lawyer and entrepreneur but thinks of herself as a problem solver. When her work in circular fashion collided with her passion for offshore racing, Sail to Shelter was born. Sail to Shelter is a nonprofit organization committed to keeping sails out of landfill. Sails are transformed into industrial-sized shade and shelter and used by humanitarian aid organizations around the world. Angela has brought together a multidisciplinary team of experts including master sailmakers, textile engineers, world class structural engineers and architects to help solve two problems at once: too many discarded sails and too many unsheltered human beings all over the world.
