St. Francis Yacht Club – The character of a man can be measured by the characters he attracts. By that measure, the Star Class World Champion and colorful America’s Cup skipper Tom Blackaller remains an unforgettable legend a quarter century after his death. Though wicked smart, school never matched Tom’s passion for boats, cars or girls. Tom’s competitive spirit and bad-boy style were personified with the name of his second Star boat, Good Grief—the favorite refrain of comic strip character Charlie Brown who was constantly in trouble and outsmarted by his female muse Lucy. To celebrate YRA’s re-dedication of our favorite weather mark, WYL will host a Zoom call rogue’s gallery of Tom’s buddies recounting tales of our fallen friend and hero.
