Featuring Jeff Cowen, Executive Director, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
Located 6,225 feet above sea level and stretching down to a depth of 1,645 feet, Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. This ancient lake also has the clearest lake water in the United States. Yet, there are century-old accounts of irresponsible boat owners deliberately sinking their boats into the lake instead of paying to remove or dismantle them. What happens when a boat is abandoned into this pristine lake? Who monitors for oil or gasoline leaks? Who is responsible for reporting such incidents and removing the debris?
In this week’s WYL, Jeff explains how the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) helps to preserve, restore and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region.
