The Corinthian Yacht Club, located in the city of Marblehead (Massachusetts, USA), with its rich legacy associated with yachting and sailing, located in one of the most picturesque harbors this side of the Atlantic — claimed by many to be the birthplace of the American Navy — is the ideal place to open the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.

CLASSIC YACHT DIVISION

1st Place Black Watch (CRF Rating 48.0)

BLACK WATCH: (formerly EDLU II) was built in 1938 for the Schaefer family of Larchmont , NY. Construction took place in City Island at the Nevins Shipyard to the design of Sparkman and Stephens. This was the first design that S & S tank tested. (Specifications: LOA: 68′0″ * LWL: 48′0″ * Beam: 14’7″ * Draft 9’3″ * Sail Area: 2,125 sq ft)

SPIRIT of TRADITION DIVISION

1st Place Rival (CRF Rating 30.2)

RIVAL was designed in the classic spirit of old sailing traditions. Dave has raced this boat in the Corinthian Classic Boat Regatta for several years and this year not only won in his class but also won the Best Overall Performance Trophy, the William Starling Burgess Trophy. (Specifications: LOA: 37.50′ * LWL: 30.00′ * Beam: 12.25′ * Draft 6.75′ * Sail Area: 658 ft2)

CLASSIC GRP YACHTS DIVISION

1st Place “Arion” (CRF Rating 29.4)

ARION Was launched on May 15, 1951, in Warren, Rhode Island, for the Commodore of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club, Verner Z. Reed, Jr. Designed by Sidney Herreshoff, Arion was built at the time from an innovative new material, Glass Reinforced Plastic. She was built without frames, longitudinal stringers or backbone. (Specifications: LOA: 42′0″ * LWL: 37′11″ * Beam: 8′1″ * Draft 5′6″ * Sail Area: 562 ft2)
