Malabar IV was quite different than the previous three, in that the boat would be sailed with a crew, and would compete seriously in ocean regattas. Alden having fallen overboard on Malabar III, luckily was able to grab a hold of the shrouds and hoisting himself back on board, it was this experience that changed Alden’s taste for singlehanding, and a decision to have a paid crew member onboard.
