“She’s gorgeous, beautiful, fast and famous.” – Douglas Adkins, Author of Dorade: The History of an Ocean Racing Yacht
“I was introduced to Dorade when I was a little boy, when my father pointed her out to me at the Seattle Yacht Club. He told me that she had won the Transatlantic Race and the Transpac Race and was one of the most famous yachts in the world. From there on out, I was around Dorade a lot growing up, following her and racing on her.”
“I decided that I would write a book about Dorade, because I had so much resource material about her that I had collected over the years out of curiosity, and I felt her story was an important one individually and in relation to Olin Stephens; Dorade’s story is really Olin’s story, as she was the only yacht he ever owned. I also wanted to write a book so that people could know her history particularly on the West Coast where she spent a majority of her life, from the forties to the late-nineties.”
