35th America’s Cup: Australian Challenger of Record Confirmed

On the 30th anniversary of Australia II’s historic win in 1983, the Hamilton Island Yacht Club has been confirmed as the challenger of record for the 35th America’s Cup, and meets requirements stated within the “Deed of Gift” of the America’s Cup

Dates, type of boat, format and rules are subject to negotiation between the “Challenger of Record” and Defender, both , HIYC Hamilton Island Yacht Club, and GGYC Golden Gate Yacht Club are keen to have multiple challengers and to cut campaign costs for all teams. It will be the first time there has been an Australian entry in the Cup since 2000.

Hamilton Island is led by Australian winemaker and renowned sailor Bob Oatley, whose succession of Wild Oats Yachts have dominated ocean racing in Australia for years.
