Gordon Fock – Restoration to Continue

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen gives the green light for the further restoration of the sailing training ship “Gorch Fock”. The goal is to complete the ship of the Navy by autumn 2020 within the agreed cost specifications.

25.6.2019  – The cost of refurbishing the 81-meter-long ship had gone completely out of control. Instead of ten million euros, more than 70 million euros have been spent. Then a total cost of 135 million euros was set as the upper limit.

The renovation of the 61-year-old ship is still heavily controversial because of the skyrocketing costs. After three years, the “Gorch Fock” was allowed to go into the water for trial purposes for the first time.
