St. Francis Yacht Club – (Host Ron Young) In March of 2021, Paul Cayard was selected as Executive Director of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Program, just four months before the Tokyo Olympic Games begin in July. With the whole world watching, America’s reputation will be on the line. Ask Paul, one of America’s most accomplished sailors and leaders: “Why accept such a giant challenge?” He answers, “Being an American and part of a movement to support American sailors taking their rightful place amongst world class competition is my strongest motivation.”
Our two-time Olympian, Round the World winner, 7x World Champion and 7x America’s Cup competitor is well suited for this challenge. After decades of managing multi-million-dollar design, engineering, building and racing programs, with hundreds of employees, Paul has the temperament and skills to lead America’s Olympic Sailing staff, technology and bright young sailors in the biggest regatta of their lives.
