Historical:
Cuilaun, sister ship to later built Talisker Mhor, was designed by George McGruer in 1969 and built and launched by Peel McGruer & Co., Clynder, Scotland in 1970. She has been owned by Brian Smullen, a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club, for 48 + years.
The big ketch is of a high bow, sturdy superstructure, and stout rig…a true blue-water-sailer. Cuilan has completed 12 transatlantic voyages and was the class winner in the 1979 Transatlantic Race. She has also been class winner at Antigua Classic Week, 2004, Parkinson Award, overall winner of the Solent based 2017 Panerai Classics Week, the Per Addua Ad Mare Trophy, and numerous other races.
