A celebration of vessels from a bygone era (May 24-26)
The Brixham Heritage Regatta has its roots in the 1800’s, when several working sailing vessels came together to race and create an incredible spectacle out on the water. During this events heyday in the 1920’s and 30’s, the fleet not only consisted big ketches, but also included a fleet of great classic yachts and several famous J-class yachts.
After the war, the racing lapsed and as sailing trawlers became commercially outdated, the fleet slowly disappeared.
Since 1997 – through the efforts of local skippers and charities committed to restoring and preserving the original Brixham Trawlers, the event has returned and is one of the highlights of the traditional sailing calendar.
Take part in not one, but TWO maritime events during a ten night break on Provident. Compete for the King’s Cup in Brixham for the Heritage Regatta, before sailing across the channel to the French festival of La Morue en Fete where a special invitation has been extended to Provident.
