Knud Reimers (1906-1987) Denmark

One of the most important Scandinavian yacht designers of the 20th century. Born in Denmark and educated as an apprentice shipwright at Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft in the 1920s. In those years the yard built large sailing and motoryachts. He then later worked as apprentice at Abeking & Rasmussen in Bremen-Lemwerder under the supervision of Henry Rasmussen. It was there that Reimers became familiar with the design of sleek, fast and beautiful yachts.

Fist employment came at the design studio of the famous Gustaf Estlander. At only 54 Estlander passed, leaving the 25 year old Reimers in a position to buy his design practice, which Reimers did, and without delay, sold six 22-meter skerry cruisers to the Detroit Yacht Club. A flourishing career began with many famous yachts, including, to name a few, Tumlaren in 1932, often quoted by Uffa Fox as the “the most advanced type of cruiser in the world.” Bacchant in 1936, and Waterwitch in 1937…..
