No. 5 Elbe – Towed to Peters Werft

No. 5 Elbe was towed early Friday morning at high tide to Peters Shipyard, Wewelsfleth, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

 

20.6.2019 (Parkplatz Stadersand) – Damaged areas were sealed by Ardentia Marine salvage company divers enough for the 30-kilometer passage under tow to Peter’s Shipyard on the intersection point of the Elbe and Kiel Canal shipping lanes.

Once at Peters shipyard. she will be positioned in the slipway, carefully chocked then lifted for a thorough and complete survey providing a blueprint for restoration.

After No. 5 Elbe is safely in dry dock she will join another famous vessel owned by the Hamburg Maritim Foundation the four-master Flying P-Liner Peking, currently under restoration.

  1. So many of us whose lives have intertwined with the maritime treasure ‘ELBE 5’ are watching with deep concern as progresses towards her hopeful repair. The last we heard, she had made it to the shipyard and was dockside; there’s been not a word since on whether she has been hauled out yet; no news on results of structural surveys to assess damage. Is she still afloat, or now ashore? Please do what you can to bring us news–anything that has happened–so we know what’s going on over there! Thank you.
