On Monday 8 June, the United Nations launched its first-ever fully digital rendition of its annual World Oceans Day event in celebration of its 2020 theme, Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.
Produced in partnership with Oceanic Global, United Nations World Oceans Day 2020 was a day-long event featuring keynote speeches, panels, and presentations on innovative solutions for the ocean.
The event opened with remarks by Secretary-General António Guterres and President of the General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande and will feature leading names across industries including Cara Delevingne, Ellie Goulding, Bill McKibben, Jean-Michel & Fabien Cousteau, Sylvia Earle, OceanX, Terracycle Founder & CEO Tom Szaky, Gayatri Reksodihardjo – Lilley (LINI), youth activist Lilly Platt and many more.
The event which typically takes place in the UN headquarters was open to the public for the first time and accessible live from all continents around the globe.
