In 1986 Pier Francesco Gavagnin, Director of Portosole Sanremo, had a brilliant idea and Vele d’Epoca was created. Since then Vele d’Epoca has turned into an international gathering for classic boats in the Mediterranean.
The 23rd Edition of the Event will be divided into seven Classes
Some of the magnificent vessels attending are Tuiga, the flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco, was designed by William Fife as a twin to the Fife-built Hispania, so that the two 15M IR vessels could race together on an equal footing. Cambria, also designed by William Fife III, was the forerunner of the J-Class Yachts. She was launched in May 1928, and was the first of a new generation of Big class cutters. The first International Rule 8-Metre Nin. The 24.7m cutter Hallowe’en designed by William Fife III for Lt Col JFN Baxendale. Chips, designed by W. Starling Burgess in 1913 as Onda III, and built by Graves Yacht Yard, Marblehead, Massachusetts for Mr. John Greenough, of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The 39 Metre Naema, inspired by the Alfred Mylne design no. 387 Panda, which was built by Camper and Nicholson, Gosport, Portsmouth in 1938, and many more…

- Sept, 3rd – 5th: Dragon Class
- Sept, 8th – 11th: Vintage and Classic Yachts
Vintage: yachts in wood or metal built before 1950
Classic: yachts in wood or metal built before 1976
The Dragon Class
- Friday September 2nd: arrivals, registration and inspections and launch.
- Saturday September 3rd Skipper briefing at 10:30! races, first warning signal at 12:00 p.m.
- Sunday September 4th and Monday September 5th: races
- Tuesday September 5th: races. Hauling, Prize giving at 5.00 pm.
8 races will be possibly sailed, maximum 2 every day, with the possibility to sail a daily race more in case of delay or of forecast delay on the schedule. In this case the “G” flag will be displayed on the Race Committee boat at the finish of the second daily race.
Vintage, Classics, Spirit of Tradition, Replicas, IOR and Big Boats
- Skipper briefing each race day at 09:30
- Friday September 9th: Race – 1st warning signal at 12.00 p.m.
- Saturday September 10th: Race
- Sunday September 11th: Parade, Race, Price giving Sunday at 5 pm.
3 races will be possibly sailed, maximum one race every day.
