Crossing the North Sea Alone

Enjoy the New Year with a film by Erik Aanderaa

“So here it is, my biggest challenge in my sailing career! Sailing solo across the North Sea from Haugesund, Norway- to Lerwick on Shetland the 26th of January. This made me and Sigurd the first ones ever to have crossed the North Sea solo to join the Up Helly Aa- festival on these beautiful islands… Some say crazy, I say crazy not to give it a try. This is how we develop and grow. Staying safe all the time wont get you anywhere.”

“The video was hard to make. Its all about having the effort to pick up the camera when you really don’t want to, and most important, trying to make a story out of it.. Seasick, cold and wet every minute. I loved it. Its all about making a plan and follow it. Theirs only plan A. You don’t think about plan B before you are forced to! Stay on your course and hold it steady! You’ve might heard the words often attributed to Mr. Winston Churchill” – “If your going through hell, keep walking”

😉 Best regards Erik

Erik Aanderaa – Hi Everyone! Finally the circle is closed! Ive crossed the North Sea wintertime alone to see the Up Helly Aa festival! And now Ive got my boat back from Shetland to Haugesund, Norway. And here is the evidence. All though it wasn’t to much wind Ive tried my best to capture the life onboard my sailboat during an ocean crossing alone. Ive used all my editing skills to try making it as interesting as possible, still a rookie tho, so much to learn…! And a big THANK YOU to https://sailwear.no/ for providing me with the supercool Gill OS23 full sailgear clothing! It will be used on all my future trips! Check it out at all their nice stuff at their website

🙂 Hope you like the vid, that it inspires and fair winds to all of YOU!!

Cheers Erik
