“There’s no place like nowhere”

A seven day journey from Newport, Rhode Island, aboard the Ted Hood designed 43-foot Hinckley centerboard sloop The “Megan Jaye,” six month’s before John Winston Ono Lennons death. Seas raging, strapped to the cockpit rails, Lennon at the helm with waves pounding him says “Take me away, God. I don’t give a shit.”

Lennon himself claimed that the experience at sea was one of the most important events of his life, a catalyst that inspired him to rise above his writer’s block and compose what would become his last material. A life changing moment for John Lennon and after arriving safely in Bermuda on the 11 June 1980, he penned an entry in the ship’s logbook, “Dear Megan, There is no place like nowhere,” a symbolic souvenir of that experience, would find a place in rock ’n’ roll history.

The Bermuda Tapes tells the story of Lennon’s life changing journey sailing through a mid-Atlantic storm to Bermuda in June 1980, his creative discovery on the island and the artistic collaboration with wife Yoko Ono who stayed at home in New York City.
